Ah well! after a few years off the grid, I need to do something about my blog page. But really about Vanuatu. This month we see court proceedings against alleged bribery cases against many of Vanuatu's politicians. It was reported that thus far, Minister Willy Jimmy has pleaded guilty to the allegations while the rest have pleaded not guilty.
The issue did not have to come to light if the allegations had not been allegedly detected. But from news reports, it is alleged that funds were sent from Hong Kong to Westpac Bank in Vanuatu and was claimed by one of the accused as proceeds from the sale of sales of a bank. The funds were subsequently released (although the role of the Financial Intelligence Unit appear to not have raised any issues) and then distributed to certain MPs. I see that a certain Thomas Bayer was allegedly caught in this activity. Thomas Bayer, much respected local business, seemed to have some sort of hand in the backroom deals and $$ exchanges. It was probably going good for him for a while but this allegations against Bayer isn't going to help with confidence on him. From my pespective, Bayer has a great mind and I have much respect for him and I do hope that he can continue his services to Vanuatu in the business manner he knows best and possibly retire from the political puzzles of Vanuatu.
Cheers for now.
Last week a Vanuatu trade show was arranged in Port Vila. It was incredibly succesful and I know many people were amazed to learn of the variety of locally produced goods that are made by our small businesses. The evidence on such small businesses show that "we can" attitude is there. We need to simply harness the potential out there.
Well after much long absence, today in 1st January 2016. I commit be a regular blogger on issues here in Vanuatu.
Last year culminated in many politicians being jailed for bribery. Parliament was dissolved by President Lonsdale in December 2015. General elections will take place on 22 January 2016. I will vote then.
Cheers for now.
